Spray Foam & HVAC Sizing

Combining a properly sized HVAC system with a spray foam envelope offers indoor occupants comfort and air quality at a new standard above conventional insulation systems.  The air-sealed thermal envelope created with spray foam keeps conditioned air inside and ambient air outside.  By introducing fresh air through the HVAC system’s filter, airborne allergens and pollutants stay outside instead of infiltrating through traditional fibrous insulation.  Many of our customers decide on spray foam for this reason alone.

Manual J Heat Load Calculation

For residential construction, a Manual J Heat Load Calculation (http://www.acca.org/technical-manual/manual-j/) is highly recommended to ensure correct HVAC sizing for new construction or retrofit applications.  A Manual J Calculation factors air leakage rates, window efficiencies (Low E), insulation values, roofing material, and more to first calculate the homes’ holistic efficiency in order to dial-in the most suitable HVAC specifications, most pointedly, the tonnage amount, fresh air induction, and humidity control.  Often times, tonnage requirements for spray foam homes are 40% to 50% less than traditionally insulated houses.  Stats like these testify to the efficiency and performance of a spray foam house.  Plus an up-front cost-savings is generally found in the retail of smaller HVAC units.
